Ellund (dpa / lno) - Schleswig-Holstein's Prime Minister Daniel Günther received 55,000 doses of the corona vaccine Astrazeneca from Denmark on Monday, which the kingdom is currently not using.

“This is a day of great joy, said the CDU politician at the Ellund border crossing.

Schleswig-Holstein will later reimburse the Swedish-British manufacturer's vaccine.

This will be done by July 7th at the latest, said Günther.

Denmark has suspended the use of this preparation for the moment.

Günther said he also wanted to be vaccinated with Astrazeneca. He got in touch with his family doctor to get an appointment as soon as possible. He would be happy if as many as possible followed suit. "Because the more speed the vaccination campaign picks up, the better." The head of government thanked the Danish consul general Kim Andersen for the support. "That shows what a good neighborhood we have with one another." The federal government had signed a contract with Denmark to borrow the vaccine.

According to the Robert Koch Institute, a total of 1.2 million vaccinations against Covid-19 were administered in Schleswig-Holstein up to and including Sunday.

The vaccination rate for first vaccinations is the fifth lowest in Germany at 30.6 percent.

A good 321,000 people in the north are fully vaccinated.

Here the rate is the fourth highest at 11.1 percent.
