Mannheim / Munich (dpa) - EHC Red Bull Munich has signed the former Stanley Cup champion and previous Mannheim captain Ben Smith for the hunt for the next German ice hockey title.
Munich reported the expected transfer on Monday as perfect after the Adler had announced the departure of the American striker a few days earlier.
The three-time champion of the German Ice Hockey League (DEL) was surprisingly eliminated in the playoff quarter-finals this season and is now converting his team.
Munich had already brought national striker Frederik Tiffels from the Kölner Haien.
The 32-year-old Smith had won the title in the lower-class North American AHL in 2018 and led Mannheim to the championship in 2019.
