Salzbergen (dpa / lni) - A 51-year-old man was found dead in his completely sooty apartment in an apartment building.
The owner discovered the tenant on Monday in Salzbergen (Emsland district), as the police announced.
How long the man had been lying dead in the apartment was initially unclear.
The exact circumstances of the death were also not yet clear.
Officials believe that he prepared food and left it on the stove.
When it developed into a smoldering fire, he presumably suffered smoke inhalation and died.
There are no indications of third-party negligence, it said.
