Jena (dpa / th) - From blackbird to dwarf mullet: The Naturschutzbund (Nabu) Thuringia calls on people in the state to count birds for the weekend.

In an “hour of the garden birds”, animal lovers should watch, count and report which species they were able to observe for an hour from Thursday to Sunday.

The count could, among other things, provide information on whether the stock of blue tits has recovered after losses in the previous year, said Nabu bird expert Klaus Lieder on Monday.

Hundreds of the cheeky blue-headed, yellow-bellied birds died of bacterial infection in 2020.

You don't need your own garden for observation: You can also join in in the park, on the balcony or from the room window.
