Weißenfels (dpa) - Coach Silvano Poropat has ended his engagement with basketball Bundesliga club MBC Syntainics with a defeat.

The Weißenfels team lost the last point game of the season at home against EWE Baskets Oldenburg on Sunday with 72:87 (38:38).

Rickey Paulding (21), Nathan Boothe, Martin Breunig and Rasid Mahalbasic (13 each) had the largest share in the success of the guests.

Kyndahl Hill and Quinton Hooker (15 each) scored the most points for the Central Germans, who already had relegation two game days before the end of the season.

Immediately before the game, the MBC coach announced his departure.

«I am very happy that I am leaving the MBC in the Bundesliga.

It is a good feeling.

I would now like to devote myself to other challenges, ”said Poropat on Twitter, explaining his renewed departure from the MBC.

They parted on good terms.

For the third time, the paths between the coach and the Bundesliga club from Central Germany will separate.

The 50-year-old Croat signed a contract in Weißenfels for the first time for the 2011/12 season.

He led the club straight back to the first division and received a five-year contract until 2020 in the spring of 2015.

But on December 26, 2015, Poropat resigned at his own request due to the lack of sporting success.

The team was then in the table cellar of the German House of Lords.

In January 2019, the Croat took command again and saved the MBC from falling into the second division.

Subsequently, the club and the coach were unable to agree on further cooperation even then.

Poropat's third return to the city of Saale followed in February 2020. After a year or more, the Bundesliga team and the coach have again found no common ground.

The club now has to start looking for a new coach who has to put together the squad for the coming season with limited financial possibilities.

MBC managing director Martin Geissler has not yet been able to comment on a successor to the dpa.
