Dresden (dpa / sn) - The SPD parliamentary group has demanded a quick implementation of the federal government's Corona catch-up package for children and adolescents.

It must be invested in various measures without compromises in order to enable the best possible educational and life chances for all children, said her education expert Sabine Friedel according to a message on Sunday in Dresden.

It is about a mix to catch up on school learning backlogs, to support daycare children and to enable vacation, leisure and sports activities.

Saxony is well prepared to use the federal funds in a targeted manner.

"We all know that children and adolescents suffer particularly from the pandemic-related contact restrictions," said Friedel.

Closed crawling groups, daycare centers, schools and youth clubs are "the opposite of what children and young people need for their emotional, cognitive and social development".

According to their information, the Free State will receive around 50 million euros of the roughly two billion euros package for measures to catch up on learning backlogs, eleven million euros for school social work and 3.5 million euros for youth camps.

To this end, a federal-state agreement is to be concluded and various federal programs such as language day-care centers are to be increased.
