“On the fact of an accident with five dead in the Chistopol region, a criminal case has been initiated on the grounds of a crime under Part 5 of Article 264 of the Criminal Code of Russia (Violation of traffic rules and the operation of vehicles, resulting in the death of five persons by negligence),” the TASS regional prosecutor’s office quotes.
The regional department of the traffic police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs announced the creation of an operational headquarters after the accident.
According to preliminary data, the accident occurred due to the fault of the truck driver, who was distracted "for a split second" and drove into the oncoming lane.
Earlier it was reported that all those killed and injured in an accident in Tatarstan are passengers of a minibus, its driver also died.
