Berlin (dpa) - Almost 100 kilometers south of Berlin, police officers from the capital and the state of Brandenburg are to practice counter-terrorism together in the future, according to a media report.

On the disused barracks area Forst Zinna near Jüterbog (Teltow-Fläming district) they want to set up a joint training center, as a spokeswoman for the Brandenburg Interior Ministry confirmed to the “Berliner Morgenpost” (Sunday edition).

A spokesman for the Berlin Senate Administration said a spokesman for the Berlin Senate Department said that the site, which is still partially built on, "is to have buildings built in which police operations can be trained in an inner-city scenario."

According to the Brandenburg Ministry of the Interior, the property should be gradually developed and built on.

"Initially, complex training opportunities are to be created primarily for special units and the riot police."

In the future, however, other areas, for example for service dog handlers, are also planned.

Information on a specific schedule and funding was not given.

According to the report, neither Berlin nor Brandenburg have such a facility in which the emergency services can prepare for terrorist attacks or other large-scale situations.
