08 May 2021 Matteo Berrettini's dream continues: he is in the final at the "Mutua Madrid Open", the third Masters 1000 of the season, with a prize pool of € 2,614,465, which is being played on clay in the "Caja Mágica" of the Spanish capital . On the "Manolo Santana Stadium" the 25-year-old Roman, number 10 in the world and eighth favorite in seeding, manages to get the better of the Norwegian Casper Ruud: 6-4 6-4 the final result after an hour and 22 minutes of play.
Berrettini, who so far had beaten Ruud only once in the face of two defeats (the last in the quarter-finals of the last Internationals), will face Alexander Zverev tomorrow for the title, capable of eliminating Nadal yesterday and Thiem today (6-3 6-4) : the German beat Berrettini in 2018 in Rome and in 2019 in the semifinal in Shanghai (to date the best result of the blue in a Masters 1000); on the other hand, the pupil of Vincenzo Santopadre imposed himself at the Foro Italico two years ago.
