Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU) sees good chances for a problem-free summer vacation in the EU countries in view of the current development in the corona pandemic.

"Traveling within the EU will probably not depend on the vaccination," said Spahn of the "Rheinische Post".

"You will also be able to move around Europe-wide with the tests."

He himself is planning his vacation in Germany.

"In this hopefully last phase of the pandemic, I would not plan any major long-distance trips, the North Sea instead of the South Sea, so to speak," said the Minister.

With a view to openings, Spahn urged a prudent approach.

"If you open too quickly, you will stumble over the previous success." That is why the opening should first start outside: outdoor catering, open-air events, zoos or even sporting events with a reduced number of visitors - "and of course always with distance and hygiene," said Spahn.

A paper vaccination certificate is still valid

The yellow vaccination certificate in paper form should continue to be valid.

"If we only rely on the digital variant, both countries without this solution and citizens who do not want or cannot have it will be disadvantaged," said Spahn.

He referred, for example, to “older people without a smartphone”.

Spahn named the “second half of the second quarter” as the goal for the additional digital proof.

On Sunday, the ordinance on relief for vaccinated and convalescents comes into force.

It regulates that vaccination protection can be proven either with the digital vaccination certificate expected by the end of June or with the yellow paper ID.

Alternatively, the form completed by the vaccination centers can also be presented.
