Leipzig / Berlin (dpa / sn) - Leipzig remains Saxony's only region with a seven-day incidence below 100 - with a downward trend.

The overview by the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) gave the number of new infections with the coronavirus per 100,000 inhabitants within a week for the city on Saturday (as of 3:10 a.m.) as 91.9, after 97.3 on Friday.

The national value has also decreased compared to the previous day after a temporary increase - from 184.3 to 177.6.

This means that Saxony still has the second highest weekly incidence in Germany after Thuringia (183.7).

Nationwide this was recently 121.5.

According to the RKI overview, all regions in the Free State are now below a value of 300. Corona hotspots nevertheless remain the Erzgebirge district with 292.9 (previous day: 303.3). Three districts - Central Saxony, Zwickau and Bautzen - as well as the city of Chemnitz continue to exceed the 200 mark, six districts and the city of Dresden the 100 mark. May 10th to May 30th, it is possible to relax contact restrictions, for outdoor catering, culture and tourism if the seven-day incidence in a region remains below 100 on five consecutive working days.

The total number of laboratory-confirmed corona infections in the Free State since the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020 was given by the RKI as 271,607, which is an increase of 1159 compared to the value of the previous day.

So far, 9,264 people have died of or with Covid-19;

their number increased by 30.
