Hanover (dpa / lni) - For the election of Hanover's regional president, the CDU sends the candidate Christine Karasch into the race.

The 52-year-old regional head of the region was elected candidate with 98.3 percent of the vote, the CDU regional association in Hanover announced on Saturday.

The other applicants for the regional assembly were also determined at the delegate assemblies.

The regional chairman Hendrik Hoppenstedt called Karasch an "excellent candidate".

He emphasized: "We clearly want to become the strongest force in the region."

Hanover's regional president Hauke ​​Jagau does not want to run for office again in the local elections.

According to earlier statements, the SPD politician wants to stop on October 31, 2021.

Jagau has been the top representative of the region and head of administration since 2006.

Before that he was mayor of the city of Laatzen for ten years.
