The police who were interrogated were free on the evening of December 4, 2020 and were at the Stadsvakten restaurant at the same time as the two men - a 39-year-old and a 45-year-old - who were later shot dead outside the nightclub Hugo.

The 39-year-old was a leader in a criminal gang and lived under death threats.

Among the guests at the restaurant is also a 28-year-old man who is now one of those charged with the gang murders.

According to the police investigation, he must have communicated with the shooters via an Encrochat telephone.

93 police officers in the chat group

Inside the City Guard, the police recognize the 39-year-old and observe that he goes to the toilet several times.

After the toilet visits, "he pulls his nose with his hands", the police say in the interrogation.

At 23.44, the police write to their colleagues in a Whatsapp group to see if anyone from IGV could check on the 39-year-old and his company.

"What kind of Whatsapp group is that?" The interrogator asks.

The police then describe that it is a joint chat group on IGV to which 93 police officers are connected and which is administered by the group leaders.

Chief of Police: "I know there is"

When SVT asks experienced crime reporters and lawyers around the country, none of them have heard of anything similar.

Several believe that if police officers communicate during working hours in telephone apps that are outside the authority's control, it can both pose a security risk and be a crime.

For the police management in Norrköping, the information about the chat group is nothing new.

- I know that there are, and above all that there have been such chat groups, says Peter Wahlberg, local police area manager in Norrköping.

What do the police regulations say about that?

- When it happens on a similar platform as this, we must not share information worthy of protection that may be to the detriment of the police authority or the individual.

And if so, how do you handle it?

- Then we handle it internally, according to the routines we have.
