Schleswig (dpa) - The SSW will decide this Saturday at an extraordinary party congress on the top candidate for the federal election in autumn.

The deputy state chairwoman, Sybilla Nitsch (40), the Denmark coordinator of the state government, Stefan Seidler (41), and the chairwoman of the youth in the SSW, Maylis Roßberg (21), threw their hat into the ring.

For the first time since 1961, the SSW wants to take part in federal elections.

One advantage for the SSW is that parties of national minorities are exempt from the five percent hurdle under the federal electoral law.

However, as in the state elections in Schleswig-Holstein, the SSW would have to win so many votes that it is entitled to a seat according to the calculation process.

From a purely mathematical point of view, the SSW would have 40,000 to 50,000 votes for entry into the Bundestag.

For comparison: In the state elections in 2017, the SSW received almost 49,000 votes.
