Private beaches will reopen on Saturday and museums next week in Greece, health officials in Greece announced on Friday as it prepares for the opening of the tourist season on May 15.

Museums will open on May 14, open-air cinemas on May 21 with reduced capacity, and theaters on May 28.

The government began in April to ease the restrictive measures taken in November by allowing the reopening of most retail businesses except shopping malls.

The terraces of cafes and restaurants were able to reopen on May 3.

However, tourism professionals do not expect massive arrivals of foreign tourists before July.

In April, the quarantine requirement was lifted for vaccinated or tested travelers from countries in the European Union and a few other countries such as the United Kingdom and the United States.

Greece has been hit hard by the third wave of the pandemic, with most of the more than 10,000 deaths from Covid-19 recorded in recent months.

A total of more than 350,000 cases have been recorded in this country of 10.8 million inhabitants.

Over 3.4 million vaccinations have been performed and over one million people have received their second dose.
