Frankfurt / Main (dpa / lhe) - In the future, the operator Fraport will be responsible for the security controls at Frankfurt Airport.

So far, the Federal Police has been responsible for this.

The new regulation will apply from 2023, as the Federal Ministry of the Interior reported on Friday in Berlin.

Fraport and the Federal Police have signed a corresponding “loan agreement”.

As of January 1, 2023, the Ministry will transfer “responsibility for the organization, financing, control and implementation of the aviation security checks” to Fraport.

The federal police are relieved of administrative matters and can concentrate on security tasks.

Fraport will therefore also be responsible for staff in the future.

The controls would be carried out by “qualified specialists on behalf of Fraport AG and under the supervision of the federal police,” it said.

The employees perform official duties and are paid according to the tariff.

There had been controversies about who was responsible before the Corona crisis.

With strikes, the private security forces who control passengers for the federal police, enforced significantly higher salaries.

The large airports want to control the private service providers themselves and encourage them to use staff more flexibly with bonus and penalty payments.
