Thirty Covid-19 infections have been recorded in recent days in the migrant camp on the island of Lesbos (Greece).

About a hundred people, including the families of sick people, were "placed in quarantine", authorities said on Thursday.

Since the appearance of the coronavirus in March 2020 in Greece, very few cases have been recorded in this camp, which is home to nearly 6,000 migrants.

The severe restrictions that apply (refugees are only allowed to leave for a very limited time) have surely played a role in this situation.

Very difficult living conditions

Vaccination of migrants began a few weeks ago in Lesbos but many of them refuse the injection in protest against their living conditions.

The reception and registration camp in Mavrovouni, near the port of Lesbos, was indeed built in an emergency after the fire in the Moria slum in September 2020.

It is considered provisional pending the construction of a new camp on the island.

This project was delayed due to protests from some residents and local authorities, tired of the presence of migrants on the island.

While security in this new camp is better, living conditions remain harsh for many families, parked in tents without electricity.
