Erfurt (dpa / th) - Municipalities in Thuringia have benefited greatly from the federal and state government's urban development funding program over the past 30 years.

Around 3.5 billion euros have been invested in the redesign or redesign of districts since 1991, as the Ministry of Infrastructure announced on Friday.

The money not only benefited public projects such as district centers or town houses, it also supported private construction projects.

With 116 million euros, which, according to the CDU member of the Bundestag Antje Tillmann, flowed until 2020, Erfurt alone was spruced up.

Among other things, the state capital received money for the new ICE-City in the vicinity of the main station.

As an example for rural areas, the ministry cited the renovation of the “Kerbscher Berg Monastery” family center in Dingelstädt (Eichsfeldkreis), for which 911,000 euros were made available from the funding program.

According to Tillmann, the federal government has been providing 790 million euros annually from the program across Germany since 2017.

Every euro of urban development funding generates around seven euros in private and public investments.

Saturday is the nationwide day of urban development funding, on which municipalities provide information about the program and specific projects on site.
