TR Perenbach, in his famous book This Kind of War, reads like a US military textbook, described the US soldiers from 1945 to 1950, ahead of their participation in the Korean War.

"A new type of regular soldier who does not even try to abandon his civilian status even when he is a soldier", "He wore military uniform, but his heart is still civilian", "The army that American society has longed for and finally achieved", "This army is arbitrary, There was no power, and everyone was equal”…

Originally, the United States has a deep-rooted resentment against the regular military.

They viewed the regular army as a potential violence that could harm freedom, peace and democracy.

Immediately after gaining independence, the regular army was dismantled altogether.

However, at the end of World War II, millions of regular soldiers were retained in the absence of extraordinary external threats.

The United States forced the barracks to be socialized and civilized.

U.S. soldiers wore military uniforms and pursued the same recognition and life as civilians outside the barracks.

It became such an army in Perenbach's eyes.

Since then, the US military has raised the combat power and pride of the socialized military through severe actual battles and trial and error such as the Korean War and the Vietnam War, and walked on the path of a strong military coexisting with society.

US soldiers from 1945 to 1950, when rebels were laid on the base of society, and the fences of the military were broken.

It is similar to the current situation of our military.

The Korean public's sense of rebels is no less than that of the United States in the past.

Isolation facility covered with mold, embarrassing lunch box to hold a spoon, trainee who can't go to the toilet, broken patella...

The clamors of soldiers from all over the place can be an aspect that reveals the socialization of the military.

Then, yesterday (7th), the measures to guarantee the living conditions for the quarantined soldiers issued by the Ministry of Defense at a meeting of major commanders of the entire military are only a one-time antipyretic system.

It cannot be a cure.

When a radical change in the military is needed

From the May 16th military political affairs to the Roh Tae-woo administration, we lived in the era of the military, and the Kim Young-sam administration achieved depoliticization of the military through the purging of Hanahoe and the investigation of Yulgok corruption.

Since then, civilian control over the military, that is, civil control, has been implemented for more than 20 years, deterring the military's political intervention and North Korea's aggression.

It is the success of civil control, which is an essential system of a democratic state that supports security and democracy.

If civil control is the hardware of a powerful democratic nation, the morale of the soldiers is software.

It seems that the time has come for major software reforms.

The military was once superior to the civilian in technology, organization, discipline, etc., but is now far behind.

There is no longer anything to learn in the military and use in society.

The fence between the military and society broke down as mobile phones became available following the military PC room'Saji' (cyber knowledge information center).

Autonomy, equality, and justice are being implanted in the military, and soldiers are communicating with society.

He is a soldier, but he sees, hears, and thinks that he is like a civilian outside the fence.

The military should have eagerly followed the changes of the soldiers, but they settled, and it is necessary to fiercely reflect on whether the result is a recent incident and a decline in soldier morale.

As a countermeasure yesterday, the human rights of the quarantine military will be protected, but another absurdity will emerge when Corona 19 is over.

We need reforms from the ground up that can get rid of the youth's distrust of the military and the public's rebel sentiment.

Raise the pride of socialized soldiers

It is a desirable phenomenon that citizens and soldiers become one. Not only the United States of 1945-1950, but our society aspires. If the military's combat power is secured, the military's strength that becomes one with citizens and society becomes a bastion that protects democracy and security at the same time.

It is not enough to improve the welfare of soldiers to eat and sleep well and to develop anonymous reporting apps. You can't even appeal to the national and anti-communist patriotism of the past. There is no cruel opportunity to strengthen the solidarity of the socialized military by experiencing a war like the Korean War like the U.S. military.

The chief of staff, commander, corps commander, division commander, regiment commander, and battalion commander will have to go down and sweat together to read the hearts of the soldiers. It's not something that can be done in a month or two. All the Army, Navy and Air Forces hate it, but the case of the Marine Corps cannot be mentioned.

The Marine Corps regards the victories of the Incheon Landing Operation, the Battle of Dosol Mountain, the Battle of Chabin-dong, and the Battle of Yeonpyeong Island as a military tradition, and it is an honor to keep these traditions. Although armed with loose weapons, junior marines do not bow their heads in case of emergency in order to preserve the tradition of victory of senior marines. This is the honor of the Marine Corps. Even if the barracks are allowed the same autonomy and equality as society, the hierarchy of command, obedience, and discipline will not be shaken.

The Ministry of National Defense and the command of each armed forces must devise tricks to ensure autonomy, equality, and welfare for soldiers, while raising the pride and honor that soldiers are willing to fight. You must be prepared to get dirt and mud in your commander's uniform. That way, citizens also support it. The support of the citizens and the pride of the soldiers are necessary and sufficient conditions for the strong military. I would like to see the scenery of uniforms who eat at a restaurant instead of paying for their meals, even in Korea.
