Osnabrück (dpa / lni) - During truck controls on Autobahn 30 near Bissendorf (Osnabrück district), the police prohibited a 30-tonne semitrailer from continuing and immediately shut down the trailer.

In the case of the truck loaded with used forklifts, three of the six brake discs on the trailer were torn, the police said on Friday.

In addition, the load was completely inadequately secured and the trailer was in a disastrous condition.

All in all, a "rolling time bomb that luckily could be taken out of circulation before anything worse might have happened," said Marco Ellermann, spokesman for the Osnabrück Police Department.

The truck was on its way from Great Britain via the Netherlands and Germany to Poland.

Owners and drivers have to expect a heavy fine.

"Such a transport has no place in public traffic, it could have ended badly," said Ellermann.

On Thursday, the emergency services checked a total of 66 trucks - 33 of them showed some serious defects.
