Dresden (dpa / sn) - The Saxon champions of this year's Geography Olympiad come from St. Egidien in the district of Zwickau and Niederwürschnitz in the Ore Mountains.

The seventh grader Georg Rabe and the tenth grader Leon Gester prevailed against 30 finalists from their grades, as the Ministry of Education announced on Friday.

Around 14,000 high school and special needs students took part in the 15th edition of the competition.

In several rounds, they first had to prove their geographical knowledge within their own school and later at the national level.

Good performance was rewarded with certificates and vouchers.
