The scene was filmed and relayed on social networks.

Wednesday morning, during the high school demonstration taking place in front of the Aristide-Briand school complex in Saint-Nazaire (Loire-Atlantique), a man approached the only police vehicle positioned nearby and threw several stones in the direction of the car and its occupants.

A police official inside suffered head injuries.

The individual, who was also suspected of having thrown a Molotov cocktail during the demonstration and of having damaged a city hall vehicle, could not be arrested among the crowd.

Immediate appearance this Friday

But an investigation has been opened and the suspect was identified and arrested Thursday at his Nazaire home, reports the national police.

This is not a high school student.

Aged 24, already known to the courts, he minimized the facts during his custody.

He will be tried this Friday afternoon as part of the immediate appearance procedure.

High school students have been demonstrating since the start of the week to demand that the baccalaureate take place entirely in continuous assessment because of the health situation.
