Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - The number of deaths from strokes has fallen in North Rhine-Westphalia.

In 2019, around 10,300 people died as a result of strokes, three percent less than in the previous year.

This was announced by the State Statistical Office IT.NRW on Friday on the occasion of the “Day against Stroke” on May 10th.

More than half of the dead - around 5,900 - were women.

In a good 30 percent of those affected, a cerebral infarction led to death, in 28 percent it was the consequences of a cerebrovascular disease such as cerebral hemorrhage.

The average age of those who died was 81.4 years.
