The evacuation went according to plan, "only in individual cases there was a need for discussion," said the city.

The ordnance clearance service of the Supervision and Service Directorate (ADD) had defused the bomb.

The bomb was discovered on Thursday during sewer work in the playground of a vocational school.

The city of Bingen said it had opened the Bingen cultural center and the gymnasium of a primary school for the time of the evacuation when people had no possibility of private accommodation.
