Kamenz (dpa / sn) - In Saxony, around 14,700 women gave birth to their first child last year.
They were on average 29.7 years old, so the age of primiparous women rose slightly from 29.6 in the previous year, as the State Statistical Office in Kamenz announced on Friday.
For 9,680 of the firstborns, the date of birth was after Mother's Day last year, so their mothers celebrated this Sunday for the first time.
According to preliminary results, a total of around 33 400 live births were counted in the Free State in 2020.
In 2019, around 491,800 mothers with children lived in the household, with a good three-quarters (77.9 percent) having underage children in the family.
52 percent of the mothers had one child, 38 percent had two and 10 percent had three or more children under the age of 18.
83 percent of all mothers with underage children were gainfully employed in 2019.
At 51 percent, just over half of them worked full-time.
