During the pandemic, the county administrative board's nature conservation officer notices that more homesteaders visit bird islands, even though it is forbidden during the birds' breeding season.

Therefore, the surveillance has been expanded and the county administrative board has applied for more money from the Government Offices to further strengthen the surveillance.

But Henrik Martinsson, director of nature conservation at the County Administrative Board in Halland, does not think that reporting an intrusion to the police is the right way to go.

Two reports of intrusions into bird protection areas were received by the police in Halland and Västra Götaland in 2019 and 2020. The most recent case concerned a couple who visited the island of Skäret in Pååarp outside Halmstad.

They had to pay SEK 6,900 and SEK 8,400 in fines, respectively.
