Munich (dpa / lby) - Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) has received the Bavarian Constitutional Medal in gold.

Together with the actress Jutta Speidel, who, as the founder of the Horizon association, works for disadvantaged women and their children, and the head of the Catholic Office in Bavaria, Cathedral Dean Lorenz Wolf, Söder received the award on Thursday in Munich.

Former Federal President Joachim Gauck will receive the gold medal at a later date.

The award is the "God bless you!"

for achievements that enriched coexistence in the Free State, said the President of the State Parliament Ilse Aigner (CSU) at the award ceremony.

"We need personalities who lead the way and thus encourage others: for cohesion, for progress, for the common good."

Aigner said of the medal winners: "They fill the values ​​of the Bavarian constitution with life: each and every one of them is a role model for the people in Bavaria and beyond!"

In addition to the four constitutional medals in gold, 28 other personalities are expected to receive the silver medal in small rounds at the end of June.
