Erfurt (dpa / th) - In the election of members of a committee to control the protection of the constitution, two AfD candidates failed again.

The AfD MPs Denny Jankowski and Jörg Henke did not achieve the required majority in a vote in the Thuringian state parliament on Thursday in Erfurt.

The Parliamentary Control Commission normally consists of five members.

However, because not all members have been elected yet, the commission has not yet been able to reconstitute itself.

Therefore, it continues to work in its line-up from the previous electoral term - with three remaining active members.

The AfD has been entitled to two places on the body since it has been the second strongest force in parliament after the state elections in 2019.

However, so far all AfD candidates have failed in the election in the state parliament and missed the necessary majority.
