Stuttgart / Berlin (dpa / lsw) - Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU) receives backing from Baden-Württemberg for his proposal for an immediate Astrazeneca approval for all those willing to vaccinate.

"If Astrazeneca was released for everyone, the younger people who behaved in solidarity in the pandemic would also receive a vaccination offer," said State Health Minister Manne Lucha (Greens) on Thursday of the dpa.

Spahn wants to release the controversial corona vaccine without prioritizing according to age, previous illness or occupational group.

In addition, the interval between the first and second vaccination with Astrazeneca - currently twelve weeks - should be more flexible.

According to Lucha, doctors have to discuss the vaccine with their patients.

However, there is no evidence from the vaccination centers that there is an unusually high number of cancellations or no-shows at Astrazeneca appointments.

"In fact, the opposite is true," said Lucha.

"We found that - contrary to what we expected - significantly more people under 60 who received their primary vaccination with Astrazeneca would also like to receive the secondary vaccination with this highly effective vaccine."

There are, in some cases, considerable reservations about the preparation of the British-Swedish pharmaceutical company.

After blood clots appear in the brain in younger people who have been vaccinated, it is only used for those over 60 years of age.

On the other hand, there are many younger people who would like to be vaccinated with it, but are not yet in the vaccination sequence.

So far, more than 30.6 percent of the population in Germany has received at least one vaccination.

8.6 percent are fully vaccinated, so if necessary they also received a second vaccination.
