Bonn (dpa) - When fighting the corona pandemic, the logistics giants see themselves in a good position to supply the whole world with enough vaccine.

More than 170 million vaccine doses have already been transported, said Post boss Frank Appel on Thursday at the online general meeting of the Bonn group.

"We are an integral part of the solution to the Covid-19 problem."

The DHL shipments went to 120 countries, including Germany.

Chief Financial Officer Melanie Kreis had already reported rising volumes before the shareholders' meeting: "We are seeing a significant increase in what we transport."

The competitor Kuehne + Nagel is also active in the business.

While DHL's figures refer to the period up to the end of April, the Swiss company has only published figures up to the end of March - by then there were around 50 million vaccine doses transported.

But K + N is also speeding up: In the second quarter (April to June) the company expects five to seven times the amount, i.e. 250 and 350 million cans.

The company expects the pandemic phase of vaccine distribution to last at least a year.

The global demand is initially 11 to 15 billion doses, after which follow-up vaccinations would be required.

Other competitors are also involved in the transport, including Fedex and UPS.
