Mainz (dpa / lrs) - The Rhineland-Palatinate SPD leader Roger Lewentz has advertised the second coalition agreement with the Greens and the FDP and called for a committed federal election campaign.

"We are the first SPD state association with which such an ambitious climate target has been agreed," said Lewentz on Thursday evening at the digital party conference of the SPD in Mainz.

The traffic light government wants to achieve climate neutrality by 2040 at the latest.

Lewentz called for the Bundestag election campaign to begin now, for the SPD to «heave beyond the 2», to become the strongest parliamentary group on election evening and to lead Olaf Scholz into the Chancellery.

"For the seventh time in a row we are the electoral winner party" and in Rhineland-Palatinate people's party, said Lewentz with a view to the victory of his party in the state elections in mid-March.

Under Julia Klöckner and Christian Baldauf, the CDU had “turned from a once proud party to a thin skeleton”.

“Julia Klöckner is a federal minister who simply cannot do it”, but touring the country with a smile, and Baldauf only controls the elevator down.

But the SPD needs a strong CDU in the opposition.

Lewentz had previously thanked the citizens for their commitment during the Corona period, especially the medical staff, bus drivers, educators, teachers and rescue organizations.

He called for a minute of silence for the victims of the pandemic.

The delegates were connected digitally to the regular party congress, the party executive met in a hall in Mainz.
