Dresden (dpa) - The Federal Prosecutor's Office has demanded life imprisonment for the defendant for murder, attempted murder and dangerous bodily harm in the trial for the fatal attack on two tourists in Dresden.

Prosecutor Marcel Croissant pleaded on Thursday in the trial at the Higher Regional Court (OLG) Dresden to determine the particular gravity of the guilt and to order the reservation of preventive detention.

It has been proven beyond any doubt that the Syrian Abdullah A. stabbed the men he identified as homosexual from behind on October 4, 2020 out of “radical Islamist” sentiments and homophobic attitudes, killing one of them and seriously injuring the other.

The two men from North Rhine-Westphalia were innocent and defenseless, the act insidious and cold-blooded, the motives despicable.

"It was not just an attack on two people, but on all of us," on freedom and democratic society, said Croissant.

The "Islamist-jihadist" convictions are deeply rooted in A. and continue to determine his life.

Therefore, the risk that he will commit further acts of violence up to the killing of people, given the appropriate opportunity, is very high.
