Munich (dpa / lby) - A high-tech beehive has been collecting numerous environmental data on the roof of the Digital Ministry in Munich since Thursday.

The beehive is part of the “we4bee” project of the company of the same name in cooperation with the Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg, as a spokesman for the ministry announced.

In a network of more than 100 beehives worldwide, data on temperature, humidity, air pressure, vibration and particulate matter pollution are now also being collected in Munich.

"I'm very happy about our new black and yellow subtenants," said Digital Minister Judith Gerlach on Thursday when the beehive was installed.

In this way, the ministry near the English Garden is also promoting some of the biodiversity in the state capital, according to the CSU politician.

In the beehive, which is networked with sensors, there are around 15,000 bees, as a spokesman said.

Using artificial intelligence, the small animals' highly sensitive "biosensors" are also used to make predictions about storms, dry periods or other natural disasters.
