Sevilla (AP) - The German soccer champion FC Bayern Munich has received the Laureus Prize as Team of the Year.

The Laureus World Sports Academy honored the outstanding season of last year's Champions League winner with a total of six titles.

"This Laureus Award is now the crowning seventh trophy in a year that we will never forget," said CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.

This year's winners were announced at a digital award ceremony on Thursday in Seville.

The individual awards went to tennis stars: for the men to the Spaniard Rafael Nadal and for the women to the Japanese Naomi Osaka.

In other categories there were prizes for Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton for his fight against racism, the Egyptian soccer star Mohamed Salah from Liverpool FC for his social commitment and quarterback Patrick Mahomes from last year's Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs .

Tennis icon Billie Jean King from the USA, who has campaigned for equality for decades, was honored for her life's work.
