Berlin (dpa / bb) - Berliners should have more opportunities to have a say in the issue of climate protection.

The House of Representatives spoke out on Thursday with the red-red-green majority of the governing coalition in favor of convening a climate citizens' council.

Its aim is to develop proposals on how Berlin can achieve its goal of becoming climate neutral and bring in the perspective of the city's residents.

The idea goes back to the citizens' initiative “Klimaneustart”.

It is still unclear how many members the climate council will have.

The SPD MP Daniel Buchholz said, for example, there could be 100 representatively selected Berliners.

The climate council should be a supplementary, advisory body that brings input from urban society, said Buchholz.

CDU, FDP and AfD rejected the climate citizens' council.
