Mannheim (dpa / lsw) - Captain Ben Smith will leave the Adler Mannheim after three years.
The 32-year-old striker rejected a contract offer from the Adler after losing in the semi-finals of the German ice hockey championship, the club announced on Thursday.
"Ben's decision hit us hard, but we have to accept it," said sports manager Jan-Axel Alavaara: "Replacing a player like Ben will not be an easy task."
The American Smith came to Mannheim in 2018 and celebrated the championship with the Eagles in 2019.
