Berlin (dpa / bb) - A young man entered a late-night shop in Berlin-Mitte and stabbed the owner wordlessly with a knife after initial police knowledge.

He took money from the coffers on Tuesday afternoon and fled, but was quickly found and arrested by alarmed forces, the police announced on Wednesday.

The 49-year-old shopkeeper had to be operated on in a hospital for stab wounds on the upper body and neck.

The 22-year-old suspect was due to be brought before a judge on Wednesday.
