Künzelsau / Berlin (dpa) - The Berlin-based artist duo Elmgreen & Dragset received the Robert Jacobsen Prize this year.

The foundation of the screw manufacturer Reinhold Würth awarded the duo the award, endowed with 50,000 euros this year, for their work and its high "social relevance", according to a statement on Wednesday.

The works of Michael Elmgreen, born in Copenhagen in 1961, and Ingar Dragset, born in Trondheim in 1969, are less characterized by a marketable handwriting than by a human attitude, it was said.

The prize has been awarded every two years since 1993 in memory of the Danish sculptor Robert Jacobsen (1912-1993).

Previous winners included Eva Rothschild, Yngve Holen, Alicja Kwade and Jeppe Hein.
