Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - Around 150,000 teachers and employees at secondary schools in North Rhine-Westphalia can get an appointment for the corona vaccination from tomorrow, Thursday.

They belong to the occupational groups in priority group three, for which the state is opening the vaccination campaign with immediate effect.

This is "a good and important signal," said school minister Yvonne Gebauer (FDP) on Wednesday.

After the primary and special school teachers, the other teachers could now also be vaccinated.

The vaccination is an "important contribution to the protection against infection and the stabilization of school operations".

Together with the compulsory corona test, this will make face-to-face operation in schools even safer.

The education union GEW welcomed the vaccination of teachers as "overdue".

Now they should get a vaccination appointment as soon as possible.

"If you want safe schools, you have to vaccinate and test."

The Philologists Association of North Rhine-Westphalia spoke of unequal treatment of teachers due to the different vaccination practices in the municipalities.

That led to resentment and incomprehension.
