Flintsbach (dpa / lby) - Falling stones on the walls of Falkenstein Castle in Flintsbach in Upper Bavaria have alerted the authorities: The Rosenheim district office announced on Wednesday that the area could not be entered for about two weeks until May 20.

Due to frost damage, it cannot be ruled out that stones could come loose from a wall on the side of the tower.

The time of closure will now be used to secure the slope.

The wall was not part of the renovation of Falkenstein Castle, which was completed last year.

The facility had been prepared for visitors for four years.

The castle ruins not far from the motorway are considered a hiking destination.

The main castle Falkenstein was built around 1300 according to the tourism company Chiemsee-Alpenland.

The outer bailey was built in the 15th and 16th centuries.

After an extensive expansion phase in the 16th and 17th centuries, the complex was destroyed by fires at the end of the 18th century.

It is part of the Petersberg monument complex with the Romanesque St. Peter's Church with the associated sacristan's house.
