Leimen (dpa / lsw) - Around 60 environmental activists from the "Extinction Rebellion" organization have blocked access to the HeidelbergCement factory premises.

They demanded more effective climate protection from the company on Wednesday in Leimen (Rhein-Neckar district), as the police announced.

According to the information, the police called on the women and men to leave the premises.

In addition, dismissals have been issued.

State security is investigating 64 participants in the blockade on suspicion of violating the Assembly Act, coercion and trespassing.

As a police spokesman for the dpa said, some of the people left the place after a few hours initially peacefully, other participants in the blockade were carried away by officials.

Dozens of trucks had previously been prevented from entering and leaving by the activists.

Overall, the mood was peaceful, the police were with about 50 officers on site, it was said.

The activists criticize the building materials company for its climate-damaging CO2 emissions, among other things.

Photos show how women and men sit in front of the factory premises on Wednesday.

The campaign took place one day before the HeidelbergCement shareholders' meeting and had the motto “Future instead of cement”.
