Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - Collective bargaining for the North Rhine-Westphalian retail trade began on Wednesday.

After the first round of negotiations in Düsseldorf, the Verdi union complained that the employers had not submitted an offer.

Your negotiator, Silke Zimmer, called it “absolutely disappointing”.

Verdi is demanding 4.5 percent plus 45 euros more money for around 700,000 salespeople in North Rhine-Westphalia.

Last year, the retail sector achieved the highest increase in sales since 1994.

This increase in sales could not be attributed to internet trading alone.

The stationary retail trade could also show an increase of 4.3 percent.

The managing director of the NRW trade association, Peter Acht, referred to the different situations of the individual parts of trade in the corona crisis.

There are industries that have come through the pandemic well and others whose stores have mostly been closed in recent months.

A common understanding must first be developed for this in the negotiations.

"We're still a long way apart," said eighth.

Therefore it was too early for an offer.
