Schwerin (dpa / mv) - According to the CDU state chairman Michael Sack, the tourism industry of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania threatens to be left behind by Schleswig-Holstein.

"While anyone with a negative test result is allowed to eat in a restaurant on Sylt, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania can only be entered in exceptional cases," said Sack on Wednesday with a view to the corona pandemic.

For weeks, many people from West Mecklenburg have been taking them to Lübeck for shopping or outdoor dining, he said.

Other regions in the neighboring country have already been opened to tourism.

"If tourism starts in the Bay of Lübeck, it must be an alarm signal for everyone who cares about the tourism region of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania."

Although the seven-day incidence in Schleswig-Holstein is only half as high as in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, the incidence is also falling in the northeast, and the vaccination campaign is making noticeable progress.

"So I see no reason to continue to declare Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania a restricted area," emphasized the CDU chief.
