Every year, small farms disappear, replaced by large farms.

A dynamic that the association Terres de Liens wants to break.

To do this, she created "Objectif Terre", a sort of Leboncoin intended for future farmers who wish to take back plots to cultivate them in a sustainable manner.

Would Leboncoin now have its agricultural version? In any case, this is what the "Objectif Terre" platform looks like, which offers plots for the installation of new operators. Considerable help for a reconversion closer to nature. The environmental consultant of Europe 1, Fanny Agostini, explains everything about this new site in her column "Our Planet", Wednesday.

"'Objectif terre' is aimed at people who want to become peasants. Launched in November, the site already hosts 1,200 sales and purchase ads and has more than 200,000 visitors. The platform mainly offers ads for small areas, in the idea of promoting sustainable and peasant agriculture. This system was developed by the association Terre de Liens, which has been working for 18 years to preserve agricultural land and pass it on in an ecological way.

Succession is not assured in the agricultural sector

The aim is above all to support the renewal of French farmers at a time when they will become scarce.

Succession is not at all assured in the agricultural sector.

The situation is even very critical: more than half of the farmers are now over 50 years old, while the number of small farms is constantly falling in favor of the largest farms.

In 2000, France had 277,000 small farms against 100,000 fewer in 2016. At the same time, large farms have multiplied in the landscape.

This expansion is not without consequences: it reduces employment in the agricultural sector and contributes to what is called 'soil anemia'.

Large specialized plots are more prone to erosion and of course damage the land.

It is therefore urgent to facilitate the access of young generations to small surfaces before they are bought by larger organizations or they are artificialized.

An ecological approach of the association

Other organizations exist to ensure this essential transmission of agricultural plots.

Originally, the Chamber of Agriculture oversaw a national directory on departures and installations.

Beyond this public body, many sites now offer the resale of agricultural land.

But the Chamber of Agriculture does not necessarily aim to ensure that the land exchanged follows ecological specifications. Certain associations or cooperatives such as Objectif Terre are therefore organizing themselves to collectively buy plots for sale in order to transfer them to farmers who want to settle in a sustainable approach, respectful of the soil and human beings. And that's good: it is the wish of the vast majority of candidates for the takeover. "
