In February, the social administration decided to remove the soft drink from the meals in the municipality's care and nursing homes.

The drinks served would be mineral water, light beer and various forms of mealtime drinks.

The decision was questioned and the chairman of the municipal board, Carina Johansson (C), said that she would work for the decision to be changed, because "of course our elderly should be able to choose to drink soft drinks if they want to."

But at today's social committee, the decision was to stick to the administration's decision: No soft drinks for the elderly at meals.

Wants to contribute to better health

The decision was based, among other things, on what it looks like in other municipalities in the county and information that shows that most tenants choose other than soft drinks.

In addition, they want to contribute to better health based on national guidelines and the National Board of Health and Welfare's mission to prevent malnutrition among the elderly.

- Freedom of choice regarding meal drinks must be a natural part of the service at care and nursing homes.

The tenant can therefore choose to bring the desired drink with the meals, says Inga-Maj Eleholt (C), chair of the social committee in a press release.

In the press release, the municipality also writes that the threats and harassment that have occurred against the municipality's officials after the social administration's decision are unacceptable.
