The Sony group has announced that it has invested in the discord discussion platform, which is very popular with video game enthusiasts, specifying that it wishes to integrate it into the PlayStation next year.

Sony Interactive Entertainment has made a "minority investment" in the platform, which has more than 140 million monthly users, many of whom are game enthusiasts, said Jim Ryan, president of the tech giant's games arm, in a statement. press release dated Monday.

Sony and Discord have not specified the amount of the transaction or given other details.

The announcement follows press reports in mid-April claiming that Discord had halted negotiations with Microsoft, the maker of the Xbox, with a view to its possible takeover.

"Our goal is to bring the Discord and PlayStation experiences on console and mobile closer together starting early next year, making it easier for friends, groups and communities to come together, have fun and communicate while playing together, ”Ryan explained.

“Together, our teams are already hard at work connecting Discord to your social and gaming experience on PlayStation Network,” he added.

Discord, based in San Francisco, offers a free platform where you can exchange text, audio and videos.

Sony released its highly anticipated PlayStation 5 console last November.
