Berlin (dpa / bb) - When looking for an appointment in one of the Berlin vaccination centers, patience is still required: "At the moment the rush is really big," said Health Secretary Martin Matz after the Senate meeting on Tuesday.

This is a challenge for all those currently eligible for vaccination who are still looking for an appointment.

Berliners who were quick and lucky to start booking for priority group 3 on Monday were able to secure appointments in May or June.

Matz said: "We have to ask for your understanding at the moment that the large number of people who want to be vaccinated and the possibilities we have to provide appointments, at least not lead to timely vaccination options."

In plain language: If you don't have an appointment yet, you will probably have to wait a long time for one.

So far there have been 1.3 million vaccinations in Berlin, said Matz.

"But in the calendars of the six vaccination centers alone we already have 1,086,000 fixed vaccination appointments for the next two and a half months, which we naturally want to keep."

And so the capacities are largely exhausted.

"That means that in May, June and into July we are pretty full when it comes to these appointment options," said the State Secretary from the health administration.

"In individual cases, we will still be able to open one or the other date by making adjustments in detail, so that bookings are still possible," announced Matz.

In view of the situation, however, he campaigned for vaccination appointments to be made in doctor's offices.

"We know that vaccine deliveries will increase so much in the next few weeks that there will actually be more appointments with doctors in private practice than in the country's vaccination centers," explained Matz.

That is why it pays to stay tuned when looking for a vaccination appointment.

"We can't yet make sure that everyone has actually received two vaccinations by summer," admitted Matz.

"But that was never the goal that was given."

Rather, the nationwide aim is that before the end of summer everyone who wants one will have a vaccination, said the State Secretary.

And this goal is absolutely achievable.

"We will get a first vaccination quota in June that will

exceed

the

50 percent mark."

The Senate expects great relief from the company doctors, who are expected to be supplied with vaccines from June 7, said Matz.

A pilot project with, among others, the BVG is to start as early as May.

The transport companies are to receive 5000 vaccine doses for this.

The same applies to the Berlin administration.
