Hanover (dpa / lni) - The Göttingen Health Campus (GCG) has drawn a positive conclusion after the first semester of the new course in Midwifery Science.

The demand is very high, said Elke Hattenbach, head of the educational academy of the University Medical Center Göttingen (UMG), on the occasion of the international midwife day on Wednesday (May 5th).

More than 400 applications have already been received for the coming winter semester.

A total of 35 students would be enrolled for the winter semester 2021/2022.

The health campus is a cooperation project between the University of Applied Science and Art Hildesheim / Holzminden / Göttingen (HAWK) and the UMG.

One of the first courses in midwifery science in Germany under the new Midwifery Act started there in the past winter semester.

According to the information, the bachelor's degree comprises seven semesters in which theoretical and practical skills are imparted in order to provide technical support for the complex physiological and psychological processes of pregnancy and childbirth.

With the bachelor's degree, graduates of the course can work in clinics, practices, birthing centers, advice centers and also independently as midwives.
