Potsdam (dpa / bb) - In Brandenburg, under 60-year-olds can now voluntarily be vaccinated against the coronavirus in medical practices with the active ingredient from the manufacturer Astrazeneca.

The Brandenburg vaccination cabinet approved this, the Interior Ministry announced on Tuesday.

Doctors' offices were expecting larger deliveries of the vaccine.

Overall, the stock could grow to more than 100,000 cans by the end of next week, it was said to justify.

"Now that Astrazeneca will finally be available again in larger quantities, we can completely cancel the prioritization for those under sixty," said Interior Minister Michael Stübgen (CDU).

From now on, doctors' offices can freely decide who will get the vaccine.

This increases the flexibility for the vaccinating family doctor quite decisively.

"Anyone under 60 can now voluntarily be vaccinated with Astrazeneca," said Stübgen.

"Of course, this involves a detailed consultation and the final decision always rests with the doctor."
