Every day, in his column "The innovation of the day", Anicet Mbida takes stock of the best in new technologies.

Tuesday, he looks at a trend in the design of fitness equipment for individuals.

Some sports equipment manufacturers make sure to transform them into decorative objects.

At first glance, it is a simple stool with a central leg, as we sometimes find in housing.

Looks like a decorative object.

And yet.

By pressing a button, the device is unlocked.

This fitness machine also allows, and above all, to do seated squats, an up / down movement with the pelvis, with several levels of resistance.

Like this stool, a dozen pieces of furniture or accessories produced by the Japanese equipment manufacturer Mizuno, better known for its sneakers, actually hide fitness equipment.

Encourage the user to play sports as soon as he has a moment

Poufs for doing sit-ups, low tables for stretching, small weighted cushions that turn into dumbbells ... There is also a cushion, again very classic in appearance, with a spring inside that one must contract or stretch to work the arms or the inner thighs.

However, the use of these real-fake decorative items remains limited.

They do not allow you to do the same exercises as in a gym.

But this is not the goal.

The objective is rather to encourage the user to use it as soon as he has five minutes, to make one or two movements while watching TV, for example.

Each piece of furniture is also delivered with a video tutorial that shows all the possible exercises.

The prices are rather moderate.

It takes about fifty euros for the stool.

It remains in the prices of classic decorative items.

Integrate these devices in the best possible way in the decoration of homes

The fact that Mizuno is so interested in the design of these devices is indicative of a trend. The design of exercise bikes and rowers is evolving in order to integrate better into interiors. And for good reason: few customers can dedicate an entire room to the gym. In general, these devices end up rather ... in the living room.
